Orpheus Caledonius Project - London Concert
Old Blind Dogs will travel to London in June to take part in a new collaborative project with the brilliant singer Siobhan Miller and baroque orchestra L'Avventura. oldblinddogs.co.uk finds out more…
On June 10th 2016, as part of the Spittalfields Festival in London, OBD will team up with renowned Baroque orchestra L'Avventura (pictured) and two-time Scots Singer of the Year, Siobhan Miller to bring music from the Orpheus Caledonius to life. Scottish music was immensely fashionable right across eighteenth-century Britain and the publication of William Thomson's 'Orpheus Caledonius' in 1725 helped to start the new trend. It was the very first collection of Scottish songs to be printed with their melodies. Despite its importance, this collection has been nearly forgotten, and it has never been explored in its entirety.
Old Blind Dogs were approached by L'Avventura's Zak Ozmo with the idea of bringing the music of Orpheus Caledonius to modern audiences by partnering up mixing the sounds of eighteenth-century high art music and folk, featuring musical instruments that range from bowed baroque strings, recorders, lutes, cittern, and baroque guitar, to pipes, whistles, fiddles, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and an array of percussion instruments.
The concert will take place on:
Friday 10th June 2016, 8.00pm
Shoreditch Church (St Leonard’s)
Shoreditch High Street, London
